How to Transport bike in Train?
To take your bike from one place to another in a train, you have to follow some rules. Indian Railways has some rules which you cannot violate. I have explained about it in detail below, please read carefully.
1️⃣ First of all you have to find all the papers of your bike which can prove that the bike is yours.
2️⃣ Now you have to find the Train transport office in your area from where any material is sent by train.
3️⃣ Now you have to go to the office and book a train ticket for your bike.
4️⃣ The price of the ticket will be decided according to the distance of transportation.
5️⃣ After all the paperwork is done, the officials will pack your bike.
6️⃣ According to Indian Railway rules, there should not be petrol or diesel in your bike, hence, you will have to empty the tank of your bike.
7️⃣ After packing, you have to come home and you will have to go back only when your train time comes.
8️⃣ You will not be asked any questions here, you can just watch your bike being put into the train.
9️⃣ Then when your train reaches the designated station, you can bring it to your home.
Note: While sending the bike by train, your bike may get some small dents, hence ensure proper packaging otherwise your new bike may get damaged.
Packaging Facility
There are 3 types of packaging facilities available for sending any bike by train, you can choose any of these facilities such as:
Basic Packaging
In this, your bike is packed like a normal parcel which increases the risk of dents and the bike may also get damaged. In normal packing, a layer of plastic is applied which is very cheap, you can pack it yourself as well.
Standard packing
In this, different plastic layers are applied to pack your bike which is a bit expensive. In this packing, your bike remains a bit safe and the officials will work hard to pack it. Its cost is a bit expensive but it keeps your bike safe.
All the visible parts like handles, headlights etc are packed to prevent any scratches.
High secure packing
In this, your bike is packed very well. The bike is covered with different cardboards so that the bike does not get scratched. But it is very expensive. If you have to travel a long distance then you can take this plan.
Although in all plans the bike reaches its designated station safely. But for a new bike, the expensive plan is good.

What is the Indian Railway rule?
According to the rules of Indian Railways, you cannot transport a bike which does not have any bill or any other papers. This is because it increases bike theft.
If anyone takes a bike from one state to another without its certificate then any thief will be able to steal any bike and sell it.
Apart from this, there should not be any kind of fuel in your bike as this increases the risk of fire in the train. Therefore, this rule applies to everyone.
If the checking officer finds fuel in your bike, you can be fined up to Rs 1000. So remove all the fuel from the bike.
Whenever you transport your bike by train, make sure to take its bill or ticket slip. Some time ago I also sent my bike by train and I was refused to pay its bill.
After that when I went to get the bike from the train, I was asked for its ticket. Although I had brought the bike by making an excuse, but this would not happen in the cities. So do not take the bill from the officer.
Apart from this, you can transport your bike in train in 2 ways and both the ways are different but the things are same. In one you get a little more security and in the other you get a little less security. I have explained about both these ways below.
Parcel method
In this, you send your bike like a parcel from one place to another by train. It also costs less money because your bike is packed like a parcel and there is also less safety in it.
In this, your bike is seen as a small parcel which is just like the contents of our house. Keep in mind that if you are travelling a long distance then you do not have to adopt the parcel method.
As a Luggage
The method of luggage is very good, you get 100% safety in it and your bike remains very safe. But use this method only when you are travelling in the same train in which your bike is also being sent, your bike will travel with you.
That is why I also send my bike anywhere by train in this manner and you also have to use the same method.
For this you will have to spend a little more money but your bike will be more safe, in the luggage method you will be able to see how your bike is being packed and how it is being loaded into the train.
As far as scratches and other minor problems are concerned, it is a train and anything can happen in it. It is a government job which has no care, so spend a little more money so that you can get a little more safety.
Can I take a bike that is not in my name?
Yes you can take a bike which is not in your name, but you will have to take the original documents of that bike with you! You cannot take a bike without a certificate in the train, it is necessary to have a certificate of the bike.
Do I have to pay for loading/unloading the bike on the train?
In today’s time, bribery is a disease and it can be seen everywhere. According to the rules of railways, you are not supposed to give any kind of bribe, but people do it because they think that by doing so, their belongings will be taken good care of.
Will my bike get damaged if transported by train?
It is possible that your bike may get some small dents or some major damage may occur to your bike as it is a train and this is possible when travelling a long distance.
How long can I keep the bike at the station?
There is a time limit of 6 hours for packing the bike, after that they charge a penalty of 10/- per hour. Railway office closes after 5 PM, so you have to transport your bike on time.
What if I don’t get my bike at the station?
It is possible that the train by which you have sent your bike may take time to arrive or may be cancelled, or it may also happen that you have missed taking the bike off the train. The railway is responsible for any such problem. If you have missed taking the bike off the train, then your bike will be brought back at the next scheduled time of the same train and will be dropped off at your designated station.
